Libby takes the fall

A grand jury found former White House insider I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby guilty of perjury in the case of a 2003 identity leak of a CIA operative. He's the highest-ranked US official to be indicted since the Iran-Contra scandal.

Taiwan thumbs nose at "One China"

Taiwanese VP Annette Lu, who Chinese officials have denounced as "the scum of the nation," announced she will run for president on a feminist and independence platform. Current president Chen Shui-bian further infuriated Beijing this week by making various pro-independence statements.

Russian journo deaths continue

In the latest of several questionable deaths of Russian journalists, Kommersant's Ivan Safronov was killed last Friday after falling from his apartment window. He was a longtime critic of Russia's military, and his death, officially labeled suicide, roused suspicion amongst colleagues.
