Archeologists have excavated evidence of the fiery final battle at Hamoukar, one of the world's earliest cities. Along with obsidian pits used for tool production, they discovered clay slingshot bullets used in Hamoukar's unsuccessful push to ward off invaders.

Chickens lay anti-cancer medicine

In the latest advance for genetic modification, Scotland's Roslin Institute has bred a chicken that lays eggs stocked readymade with therapeutic proteins. In a few years, these proteins could be used to make drugs that fight multiple sclerosis and melanoma.
